Provincial League 1936-1937

The Provincial League was introduced in 1936 as a second tier league to the National League. 6 teams entered the first season Southampton, Bristol, Nottingham, Liverpool Cardiff and Plymouth. Cardiff withdrew after 9 matches and their record was expunged. Teams also competed for the Provincial Trophy in a league format. In 1937 Plymouth withdrew from the league but Leicester, Birmingham (Hall Green) and Norwich stars joined. Leicester withdrew mid-season and their record was expunged. Liverpool also withdrew but their place was taken by Belle Vue. In 1938 the league became the National League Division Two.
